JAPAN:HONSHU:W:OKAYAMA,TOTTORI

This earthquake was recorded at a focal depth of 10km below the ground in Japan on 10-06-2000 T04:30:19, where it released a sizeable amount of seismic energy and reached a magnitude of 6.7 on the richter scale. Considering this quake occurred 10km under the surface, it is best classified as a deep geologic event. Earthquake intensity was also measured using the Mercalli intensity scale which quantifies the severity of shaking felt by the quake. On a scale of 1 (barely sensed) to 12 (completely devastating), this quake had an intensity of 9. An earthquake of this magnitude would likely be causing considerable damage to specially designed structures; well-designed frame structures thrown out of plumb. Damage would be great in substantial buildings, with partial collapse. Expect that buildings would be shifted off foundations.
