This tsunami was recorded in Chile on 02-27-2010 T06:34:11.5, where a 29 meter tall sea wave released a sizeable amount of seismic energy reaching a magnitude of 8.8Mt. Tsunamis are often caused by earthquakes, and this tsunami was caused by a quake that struck at a focal depth 23km below the surface. Natural disasters can often be deadly, and this event occurred in a populated area claiming 558 souls. In the chaos and destruction, another 12000 lives were claimed as missing. Reports suggest the total cost of damages reached $30000 million as structures were reduced to rubble. The USGS monitors tsunami events around the globe, and has assigned this event an ID of 4682. Chile-Argentina Miocene coastal - porphyry copper
Miocene mainly calc-alkalic granodiorite, diorite, and tonalite plutons, including batholiths. Plutons and batholiths apparently are consanguineous with the plutons in tracts SA13aPC, SA13bPC, and SA13cPC.
